Various Alpha Fighters in Battleoid mode

Various Alpha Fighters in Battleoid mode. (New Generation: "The Invid Invasion")

The VFA-6 Alpha (also known as an Alpha Fighter) was the main Veritech fighter in service with the Robotech Expeditionary Force. The fighter played a major role in the REFs expedition to Tirol and in the Third Robotech War. It was developed from the VF-X-6 Genia.

Characteristics

The Alpha Fighter was a piloted three-mode transformable Veritech. Its main form was a stubby fighter. The primary armament was a GU-13 Gun Pod, EP-13 gun pod, and in later models the Disruptor Cannon. 60 single-shot missile launchers were spread around the fuselage. The Alpha was capable of VTOL operations, though it could not break orbit without the help of a booster, usually an attached VFB-9 Beta.

History

After the First Robotech War ended, the Robotech Defense Force started prototype testing of the next generation Veritech. Among the competition was the VF-X-6 Genia, which was flying in 2015. It was accepted for the mainline fighter of the upcoming Pioneer Expedition. (From the Stars)

As the SDF-3 was preparing to launch in December 2022, the VFA-6H Alpha was built, and were undergoing flight tests with Max Sterling and Karen Penn to join with a Beta Fighter. (Robotech II) The -6I and -6Z models were produced by the Robotech Expeditionary Force up to the beginning of the Fourth Robotech War, though the -6X Shadow Fighters and Drones were in mass production by then to fight in The Battle of Reflex Point.
