The Armor, or ARMD, class was a type of carrier fielded by the Robotech Defense Force and was one of the first human created Starships.
Operational History
The Armor class was developed after the Global War had ended, but before Robotechnology was fully understood by Humanity and lacked some of the advances made through the study of the SDF-1. In April of 2003,construction of the Armor class carriers began. (Robotech.com timeline) The first, Armor-1, upon completion, was stolen by Anti-Unification League agents, though it was recovered soon. (Robotech: From the Stars) In total, ten Armor carriers were built by the time of the First Robotech War, but at least three were easily destroyed in the first battle against the Zentraedi, proving than they were no match for their space forces. ("Countdown") During the First Robotech War the bulk of the RDF fleet remained at Earth until Dolza led the Imperial Zentraedi Forces in a devastating assault known as the Rain of Death. Most of the remaining carriers were destroyed. ("Force of Arms")
According to at least source, Armor-10 did survive into the Malcontent Uprisings. ("Robotech: Battlecry")
Some accounts state that the SDF-2's "arms" were made up of two Armor carriers, which were destroyed along with the SDF-2 (Robotech: The Macross Saga Comic #36: To the Stars)
They were also part of the Earth defense fleet in another Protoverse. ("Robotech: Remix")
