An Ultra-Violet Scanner was a piece of machinery that could render detailed schematics of machinery and technology. This proved very useful when dealing with alien tech that was unknown to the Earth forces.

During the Second Robotech War, it was used to scan a damaged Bioroid captured by the Earth forces. This scan revealed Bio-genetic material, and a humanoid pilot. Further tests made the scientists running the scan, one of whom was Professor Cochran, believe that the pilot might have been Human rather than just a Micronized Zentraedi, as thought before.
