Utema was a Zentraedi individual who was among the Zentraedi who were welcomed into Earth life.

By May of 2013, Utema worked in a Protoculture factory near New Macross City with his friend. However, the peaceful life caused him to grow dissatisfied with life. On 8 May of the same year, he and his friend went on a rampage throughout the city and nearly killed Tommy Luan. He and his friend later got into a fight with a peaceful Zentraedi, though was humbled by the words of Rick Hunter. After the local authorities nearly opened fire on the two violent Zentraedi, Utema and his friend apologized for their actions and walked away from the city. (Macross Saga: "Robotech Masters")
